For over a decade, the Smoky Mountain Relay has been challenging and inspiring runners from across the country with its epic 200+ mile course. Set in the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains, just west of Asheville, North Carolina, this event offers a scenic, untamed adventure for teams ready to push their limits. The course is demanding, featuring intense segments that test endurance and grit — but the unforgettable views and shared team triumphs make it all worthwhile. Teams can be made up of 6, 9, or 12 runners to tackle the 36 relay legs. The 208-mile journey kicks off at the Pisgah Ranger Station Visitor Center near Brevard, NC, winding through the stunning Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests, with two exchange points along the iconic Blue Ridge Parkway. The race concludes at the Nantahala Outdoor Center in Bryson City. Runners will encounter a variety of terrain, including rugged trails, gravel and dirt forest roads, and stretches of paved roadway. Some segments run through the night, adding an extra layer of challenge and adventure. Whether you're a 6-person ultra team seeking the ultimate endurance test or a 12-person squad in it for the fun and camaraderie, the Smoky Mountain Relay is a race worthy of every runner’s bucket list.
