The Croatian Mountaineering Association invites all mountaineers and mountaineering associations to participate in the ascent of Mount Klek near Ogulin, which will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2024. This ascent is one of the central events organized to commemorate the 150th anniversary of organized mountaineering in Croatia. Through this commemorative ascent of Mount Klek, we will collectively remember the historic meeting in Ogulin in 1874 when Professor Johannes Frischauf from Graz proposed to Vladimir Mažuranić and Buda Budisavljević the establishment of a mountaineering organization in Croatia. Shortly thereafter, the Croatian Mountaineering Association (HPD) was founded in Zagreb, making Croatians the ninth nation in the world, and the first in this part of Europe, with their own mountaineering organization. The ascent will start on Saturday, April 13, 2024, between 8 and 10 am in the village of Bjelsko near Ogulin, from where it takes 50 minutes to reach the Klek mountain lodge. The program at the mountain lodge will begin at 11 am and, in addition to short speeches, will include an attractive demonstration exercise by the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) on the nearby cliffs of Podklek. At the mountain lodge, all interested participants will receive a postcard of Mount Klek and a commemorative stamp. The ascent to the summit of Mount Klek will be organized with the guidance of HPS mountain guides and the assistance of HGSS members. After the ascent to the summit of Mount Klek and the descent to Bjelsko, a free lunch and mountaineering gathering will be provided for all participants in Bjelsko below Mount Klek. On the day of the ascent, there will also be free admission and a tour of the Mountaineering Collection at the Local Museum in Ogulin.
