The race takes place along the southeastern slopes of the Snežniška plateau, with the start and finish at Črne njive above Ilirska Bistrica. In the first part, the course is run along well-paved macadam paths between tall pine trees and flowering karst grasslands. Then, runners will cross the picturesque panoramic ridge of Milanja (also known as Volovja reber), with the highest peak Velika Milanja (1099 m), home to large carnivores and birds of prey (mountain eagle, griffon vulture). From here, the view extends to the Brkini Mountains, Čičarija with Učka and Slavnik, Vremščica, Nanos, the Kvarner Gulf with Cres, and the Pivka Valley. In good weather, you can see the Julian Alps and even the Italian Dolomites. You will also run past military bunkers (caverns) of the so-called Alpine Wall, where the first refreshment stand will be waiting for you at the junction of the competition courses at 17 and 31 km. The 31 km course follows a run on macadam trails through the mighty beech-fir forest of the Snežniška Plateau and a descent through the open landscape to the foot of Kozlek. Along the panoramic edge of the Snežniška Plateau, which rises steeply above the Reka River valley, you will climb to the aforementioned peak, where another refreshment station will await you. You will continue the run downhill along the aforementioned edge, through the black pine forest and across dry karst meadows to the finish line.
